Ms Carroll passed away last week at the age of 84 and it made me very sad. I didn’t know her personally but I admired her career path and how she carried herself during that long career. She was a groundbreaking artist several times over. Two reasons I loved her: Her history making roles on Julia and Dynasty. She wanted to be seen like everyone else AND as a black woman doing it. It is very similar to how I live my life…change woman to man lol She fought hard to play roles of diverse nature like in Claudine for which she was nominated for an Oscar for Lead Actress. She wanted to be and became the “first black bitch on television” when she played Dominque Deveraux on Dynasty. She wanted the same juicy line s and antics as the other ladies on the show and she got them.
She was classy and sophisticated and of course beautiful to look at but she also radiated beauty from within. I love the say she spoke. She also had a sense of humor. She felt like an Auntie to me. My of my long time friends and family know I was a big fan. She was a good actress and I am so proud of her singing too.
I will miss any future performances of hers but we have a long past of her work to watch when we want to. I hope her journey to the other side wasn’t too painful. I will miss her.
