Poetry is Spilling Out of ME!

I am writing and writing so much poetry. It is spilling out of me! Some i have changed a bit and turned into songs. I am so proud of the surprise success of my Poetry book It was a labor of my life in 2016. My ups and downs and now I have decided that I will end the year with another poetry book. I am currently picking the poems to be included. This will chronicle my 2017 and its ups and DOWNS! I hope to have it out in December.

This has been a great outlet for me and getting my feelings out! I feel better personally and I hope people who pick up the books feel better too and can relate!

Newness

Exciting

Scary

Thrilling

Obsessed

Life changing

Life affirming

vulnerability

Nevermind

Be open to it.

It’s too unknown

Embrace it.

i just can’t

It might be good for you

It might destroy me.

my ego

my heart could get borken

my ego

my self esteem will go back down

my ego

Maybe i’ll like this job

Bye by ego

This person could be the one

Walk through it

Be present

this house could be our new sanctuary

Always do it

Maybe its time to have that baby

I will survive

I will thrive

it will work out.

It may not work out

It’s always right on time.

A Poem Looking For Understanding!

images

Surprised and Sad

I wake up.

I roll over.

I get out of bed.

I go to the bathroom.

I wash my face.

I make my tea.

I turn on my computer.

I sit down.

I go to Facebook.

I see the comments.

I go to Twitter.

I see the comments.

I go to Instagram.

I see the memes.

My heart hurts.

The message is getting lost.

The message is buried under.

The message is hard to find.

The messages coming through are bad.

The messages coming through are disheartening.

The messages coming through are maddening.

I feel angry.

I can’t believe what I’m seeing.

I can’t believe what I’m reading.

I can’t believe what people are saying.

I can’t believe what other people of color are saying.

I can’t believe what my friends are saying.

I feel angrier.

What strangers say only bothers me a little.

What my friends say hurts me a lot.

When a person of color downs another person of color, it stings.

What happen to unity.

What happened to compassion.

When will the understanding begin.

One of my Biggest Influences-Gil Scott-Heron

6t

My parents loved Gil Scott Heron and played his albums continuously while I was growing up. He had a presence in his vocals that I admired and later imitated. He spoke about reality of the black man, the black family , the society at large. I didn’t fully relate until i became an adult and lived some life. He is most famous for the song, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised. A song that is as relevant today as ever. His last album before he passed, I’m New Here, was a mini masterpiece. I REALLY enjoyed it and played it over and over again. One of the songs, Running, is one of my favs, and I am sharing it with you all.

Spoken Word Piece- You’re Kinda Right

breakup

You’re Kinda Right by James Lott, Jr 2015

I can see what you’re sayin.

Some of it is true.
In a wierd way we are on the same page about many things.
In a complex way we couldn’t be more different.

You’re younger.

I’m older.

You’re intense
I’m slower.
You see things in black or white
I like grey areas…sometimes
I own what you want someday.
I have a business.
You want one someday.
You want to raise a family.
I’ve already done that.
We both have tempers.
We are over that.

You’re kinda right.

Things weren’t going so well.

You’re kinda right

The fighting was more frequent.

You’re kinda right
It stopped working.
You are right.
We have to focus on ourselves
To each his own.
You ARE right.
But That doesn’t help with the hurt.

Friday the 13th Eve: A Poem

Friday the 13th: A Poem

Today is Thursday the twelfth.

Time to put any superstitions on the shelf.

Black Cats and Ladders and Mirrors are fine.

So are Not crossing your fingers, picking up pennies and opening umbrellas inside.

Knock on wood.

Knock on wood.

Knock on wood.

Problems don’t come in threes.

Three sixes don’t bring fleas.

Fleas?

Leave the rabbit alone.

Or make a wish on a wishbone.

Beginners Luck has no place in my home.

Friday the 13th is just another day to me.

It’s the day after Thursday the 12th .

It’s the day before Saturday the 14th.

And this poem only rhymes a little.

Now I must throw salt over my shoulder.

But I forget which one!

A Poem For March

It’s Winter, It’s Spring

It’s the end, it’s a beginning

It is the continuation that excites me

Change

Breakthrough

Metamorphosis

Hope

Transformation

Success

March is the perfect fit for me!
